First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic received General Curtis Scaparrotti, NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe and Commander of U.S. European Command, with whom he exchanged views about the political situation in the region, security challenges and the prospects for deepening the cooperation between the Republic of Serbia and NATO.
They jointly noted the high level and intensity of political dialogue and practical cooperation between Serbia and NATO, in the framework of Partnership for Peace programme, which contributed to a better mutual understanding and the promotion of relations.
Minister Dacic underlined once again that the Republic of Serbia was pursuing the policy of military neutrality, that it had no aspirations to join NATO or any other military alliance. At the same time, Serbia was willing to promote its partner cooperation with the Alliance on practical matters as well as in the sphere of political dialogue, aiming for jointly contributing to the maintenance of peace and stability in the region.
Speaking about the political situation in the region, Minister Dacic recalled that the Republic of Serbia, by taking a responsible and measured approach, endeavoured to contribute to the preservation of regional stability and to the promotion of good-neighbourly relations, this being a precondition for economic progress and prosperity of all citizens in the area.
The Head of Serbian diplomacy pointed out the significance of KFOR as the key guarantor of security to the Serbian community in Kosovo and Metohija as well as the very important role it played in the implementation of the Brussels Agreement.
