First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic has conferred today with the Secretary General of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) June Soomer who is on a visit to the Republic of Serbia at its invitation.
The two collocutors expressed their pleasure at the first visit paid by the ACS high-ranking official since the admission of the Republic of Serbia as an Observer to this regional organization which brings together a large number of the Caribbean states. Mutual readiness for further cooperation was also reaffirmed at the meeting.
Serbian Foreign Minister assessed the visit by the ASC Secretary General as very important, having historical and key significance, bearing in mind the friendly relations and support on the international level.
Following the meeting, Minister Dacic and Secretary General June Soomer signed the Framework Agreement on Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Association of Caribbean States, as a legal framework for future cooperation in areas of education, culture, promotion of tourism, protection against natural disasters and other areas of mutual interest.
“Serbia has long-standing friendly relations with the Caribbean states, but they are not sufficiently developed and Serbia is not present enough in that region. That is why we have signed the Framework Agreement in order to create a legal basis for cooperation”, Minister Dacic said adding that Serbia needed to be more present in the region in terms of diplomatic activities.
