Russia is one of the key strategic partners of Serbia

Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic met today, in the margins of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), with his counterpart, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov.

In today’s meeting, satisfaction was expressed with exceptionally good relations between the two countries and peoples in all areas.

Minister Dacic underlined that Russia was one of the key strategic partners of Serbia, as well as that Belgrade was grateful to Moscow for its support in international organizations concerning the Kosovo issue.

The Serbian Foreign Minister conveyed the position that Serbia would never impose sanctions on the Russian Federation.

“Yesterday, at the opening session of the International Economic Forum, I said that friends will always be friends and that we would never impose sanctions on Russia”, said Minister Dacic at the beginning of the meeting.

Minister Lavrov announced that Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin would visit Serbia on Monday.

During today’s meeting, Minister Dacic underlined that he hoped for a soon visit by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, as well as by Minister Lavrov.

The Russian Foreign Minister confirmed that Prime Minister Medvedev was planning to visit Serbia, as well as that he would visit our country in the foreseeable future. He thanked Minister Dacic for the views he presented and on the official position of Belgrade.
