Serbia’s readiness to fully contribute to the further promotion of UNESCO’s work

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic met today, in the margins of the 39th Session of the UNESCO General Conference, with Ambassador Zohour Alaoui, Permanent Delegate of Morocco to UNESCO, and the new President of the UNESCO General Conference.

Congratulating her on the election as President of the 39th Session of the UNESCO General Conference, Minister Dacic expressed his hope that the cooperation between the Republic of Serbia and UNESCO would successfully continue in the coming period as well.

In the context of the possibility of re-launching the bid of “Kosovo” to join UNESCO at one of the upcoming sessions of the Executive Board or the UNESCO General Conference, the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed his expectation that the newly elected President of the UNESCO General Conference would consistently adhere to the Organization’s Constitution as well as to the principles of the UN Charter and the effective resolutions of the United Nations Security Council.

Taking into account many years of Zohour Alaoui’s diplomatic experience, particularly in the field of multilateral diplomacy, he underlined his expectation that she would perform her duties with success, despite many challenges facing UNESCO.

The Serbian Foreign Minister conveyed readiness of the Republic of Serbia, as the current member of the Executive Board of UNESCO, to make a full contribution to the further promotion of UNESCO’s work within the scope of its jurisdiction.

Thanking the Minister for the congratulations, Ambassador Alaoui expressed hope that the cooperation between UNESCO and the Republic of Serbia would be promoted further, stressing her readiness to personally contribute to the de-politicization of UNESCO and the Organization’s return to the core principles and priorities of its work.
