First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic visited Timișoara today where he took part in the international conference „Security challenges in the Balkans” organized by the „New Strategy Centre”, an NGO from Bucharest, and the West University of Timișoara.
In the margins of the conference, Minister Dacic had a meeting with Head of Romanian diplomacy Teodor Meleşcanu, which was of great significance since all topics of importance for bilateral cooperation were discussed.
Both sides noted that the relations between the two countries were traditionally good and friendly and that they were a model for good neighbourliness in the region. Romania is among the five EU member states and four NATO member states which have not recognized Kosovo, which is particularly important for the Republic of Serbia.
The interlocutors also noted that bilateral economic cooperation between Serbia and Romania was on the rise, whereas the trade in goods, as the most important segment of economic relations, marked a continuous upward trend.
The meeting of the two Ministers was an excellent opportunity to engage in a dialogue on various issues which needed to be tackled in the near future and it certainly gave an important impetus to the good relations between the two countries, thus indirectly influencing their successful conduct and implementation as well as concrete agreements and potential joint projects to be realized in the period ahead.
During this visit, the Head of Serbian diplomacy met representatives of the Serbian community in Romania, including the President of the Union of Serbs in Romania, Ognjen Krstic, member of the Romanian Parliament Slavoljub Adnadj, as well as Vladika Lukijan, the Episcope of Buda and the Administrator of the Timisoara Serbian Eparchy.
