Serbia’s gratitude for Suriname’s decision to revoke recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic received today Minister of Home Affairs of the Republic of Suriname Mohamed F. Noersalim.

Welcoming the guest, Minister Dacic conveyed Serbia’s deep gratitude for the decision of Suriname on revocation of recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo. The Minister also highlighted that such a decision was a gesture of friendship and that it would undoubtedly contribute to closer relations and enhancement of cooperation between Serbia and Suriname.

Minister Noersalim emphasized that the Government of Suriname attached huge importance to the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of primarily friendly countries such as Serbia. He pointed out that the decision to withdraw recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo was a matter of principle and that it was made after long consultations, with the consent of the President of Suriname. The Minister agreed that the decision constituted a solid basis for the development of bilateral cooperation between Serbia and Suriname, especially in the economic sector.

In this context, the meeting also considered the initial concrete forms of cooperation, to be intensely worked on in the coming period.
