Political consultations between the ministries of foreign affairs of the Republic of Serbia and Japan were held in Belgrade, on 7 May 2018.
The delegation of the Republic of Serbia was headed by the Political Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Zoran Vujic, and the delegation of Japan was led by the Deputy Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Europe and Ambassador for Japanese Western Balkans Initiative, Hiroshi Kawamura.
The talks reflected mutual satisfaction at the upward trend in the overall cooperation between the Republic of Serbia and Japan, which was given a strong impetus by the historic visit of Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe to the Republic of Serbia, last January.
The two delegations discussed the possibilities for further intensifying the high quality cooperation between their countries, both bilaterally and multilaterally, and exchanged views on major regional and global issues.
The talks particularly focused on the prospects of cooperation within the framework of the newly established Japanese Western Balkans Initiative, launched for the first time in the Republic of Serbia, offering vast opportunities for joint implementation of great many projects in areas of priority importance to Serbia and the region.
