The delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia comprising the Acting Assistant Foreign Affairs Minister for Bilateral Relations, Ambassador Goran Aleksic, and the Director of the Department for North and South America, Ambassador Danilo Pantovic, was on an official visit to the Republic of Cuba to attend the 7th Summit of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), held from 2-4 June 2016.
Representatives of the Republic of Serbia participated in the event at the invitation of Secretary General of this organization Alfonso Munera, extendedon behalf of Foreign Minister of the Republic of Cuba and Chairman of the ACS Ministerial Council Bruno Rodriguez. The Republic of Serbia was granted anobserver status in the Association of Caribbean States at the ACS Ministerial Council meeting in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, held on 10 February 2012, and has since participated regularly in Ministerial Council meetings and ACS Summits.
On the fringes of the 7th Summit of the Association of Caribbean States, Serbia’s delegation had numerous bilateral meetings with high officials and diplomatic representatives of the organization’s Member States.
In the talks and courtesy callsheld separately with President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro, Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Ralph Gonsalves, Foreign Affairs Minister of the Republic of Colombia Maria Angela Holguin, as well as with officials of the Republic of Guatemala, the Republic of Nicaragua, Jamaica, the Bahamas and Barbados, Serbia’s representatives and their counterparts discussed the current bilateral and multilateral issues and modalities for their further promotion.
Furthermore, First Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Cuba Marcelino Medina Gonzalez received the delegation of the Republic of Serbia, on which occasion both sides expressed their readiness to maintain the high level of bilateral relations and the mutual support concerning issues of priority interest to both countries.
