First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic received today Political Director of the Federal Republic of Germany’s Foreign Office Andreas Michaelis, who is on a two-day visit to Serbia.
Minister Dacic stressed that bilateral relations between the Republic of Serbia and Germany were good and characterized by intensive cooperation in all fields, high-level dialogue and by a constantly improving trend. The Federal Republic of Germany is one of Serbia’s lead economic partners and investors, as well as its largest bilateral donor of development aid.
The Head of Serbian diplomacy also conveyed satisfaction with the cooperation with Germany in the OSCE Troika framework, as well as readiness for its continuation during the German OSCE Chairmanship as well. The Minister expressed his expectation that the two countries would further promote their political dialogue and overall cooperation.
Andreas Michaelis underscored that he may note with pleasure the constant progress achieved in recent years, not only in bilateral relations with the FRG, but also in Serbia’s development. He underlined that Germany was highly appreciative of Serbia’s treatment of migrants, and also that Serbia was an important partner with regard to the stability of the region. The German official recalled that stability and cooperation among the countries of the region were some of the key goals of Chancellor Merkel’s initiative in launching the so-called Berlin Process. He stressed that the Federal Republic of Germany would continue to strongly support Serbia’s EU accession process.
