Commonwealth of Dominica revokes recognition of Kosovo

Ivica Dacic with Roosevelt SkerritFirst Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic paid a visit today to the Commonwealth of Dominica, where he met with the highest level officials of this country.

“Serbia continues its diplomatic activities regarding Kosovo and Metohija and discusses this issue with an array of countries in connection to their previous decisions taken on the status of Kosovo and Metohija. I had talks with the Prime Minister of Dominica and with the Minister of Foreign Affairs about our overall relations and possibilities for strengthening our bilateral relations.”

Minister Dacic and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Commonwealth of Dominica signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs and agreed to extend mutual support and assistance.

“The Commonwealth of Dominica is the eighth country that no longer recognizes Kosovo as an independent state”, Foreign Minister Dacic said.

Minister Dacic stressed that he also received an official note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Commonwealth of Dominica which clearly and precisely stated that the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica had reviewed its previous decision and suspended it.

“It says clearly and precisely that the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica gives an advantage to dialogue, that it will respect the results of the agreement reached between the two parties through dialogue, that meanwhile it suspends its position to recognize Kosovo as an independent state and awaits the outcome of the dialogue”, Minister Dacic underlined.

The Minister noted that this was another big success for Serbia, that Serbia would continue its activities in this context, and that it wanted strategic relations and cooperation with these countries, and not only cooperation regarding Kosovo and Metohija.

“The Commonwealth of Dominica suspends its position on the recognition of Kosovo pending the outcome of the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina. After appropriate consideration and in the light of the recommendations of the UN General Assembly and of the International Court of Justice, we have agreed to review the position taken earlier by the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica to accord recognition to Kosovo as an independent state.

The Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica considers that its support to the solution of the future status of Kosovo should be support to the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina facilitated by the European Union, rather than the definition of the status before the dialogue is concluded.

Once the two parties reach an agreement, the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica will steadfastly support the position reached by the two parties. In the interim the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica suspends its position on the recognition of Kosovo pending the outcome of the referenced dialogue”, reads the note presented to Minister Dacic by Prime Minister of Dominica Roosevelt Skerrit and Minister of Foreign Affairs Francine Baron.
