Commonwealth of Dominica revokes recognition of Kosovo

Ivica Dacic with Roosevelt SkerritFirst Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic paid a visit today to the Commonwealth of Dominica, where he met with the highest level officials of this country.

“Serbia continues its diplomatic activities regarding Kosovo and Metohija and discusses this issue with an array of countries in connection to their previous decisions taken on the status of Kosovo and Metohija. I had talks with the Prime Minister of Dominica and with the Minister of Foreign Affairs about our overall relations and possibilities for strengthening our bilateral relations.”

Minister Dacic and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Commonwealth of Dominica signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs and agreed to extend mutual support and assistance.

“The Commonwealth of Dominica is the eighth country that no longer recognizes Kosovo as an independent state”, Foreign Minister Dacic said.

Minister Dacic stressed that he also received an official note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Commonwealth of Dominica which clearly and precisely stated that the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica had reviewed its previous decision and suspended it.

“It says clearly and precisely that the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica gives an advantage to dialogue, that it will respect the results of the agreement reached between the two parties through dialogue, that meanwhile it suspends its position to recognize Kosovo as an independent state and awaits the outcome of the dialogue”, Minister Dacic underlined.

The Minister noted that this was another big success for Serbia, that Serbia would continue its activities in this context, and that it wanted strategic relations and cooperation with these countries, and not only cooperation regarding Kosovo and Metohija.

“The Commonwealth of Dominica suspends its position on the recognition of Kosovo pending the outcome of the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina. After appropriate consideration and in the light of the recommendations of the UN General Assembly and of the International Court of Justice, we have agreed to review the position taken earlier by the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica to accord recognition to Kosovo as an independent state.

The Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica considers that its support to the solution of the future status of Kosovo should be support to the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina facilitated by the European Union, rather than the definition of the status before the dialogue is concluded.

Once the two parties reach an agreement, the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica will steadfastly support the position reached by the two parties. In the interim the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica suspends its position on the recognition of Kosovo pending the outcome of the referenced dialogue”, reads the note presented to Minister Dacic by Prime Minister of Dominica Roosevelt Skerrit and Minister of Foreign Affairs Francine Baron.

Grenada revokes recognition of Kosovo

Ivica Dacic and Peter DavidGrenada is the ninth country to revoke the recognition of Kosovo’s independence, as announced by the Foreign Ministers of Serbia and Grenada, Ivica Dacic and Peter David.

“I can inform you that Grenada is the ninth country to suspend all previous decisions regarding the status of Kosovo, i.e. the recognition of Kosovo as an independent country.”

The two Ministers signed a Memorandum of Cooperation and Friendship between the two Ministries and countries. The Serbian Foreign Minister underlined that Serbia wanted to develop its relations with Grenada and that he expected his counterpart Peter David to pay a visit to Belgrade.

“Minister David has officially handed me Grenada’s note for Serbia which clearly says that Grenada has reviewed its position on Kosovo and that, bearing in mind the ongoing dialogue, Grenada believes that it should not take any decisions on the status of Kosovo before the dialogue is finished, that it will respect the outcomes of the dialogue and that in this light, it suspends all previous decisions taken or declarations made regarding the status of Kosovo”, Minister Dacic said.

The Minister stressed that this meant that Grenada annulled the position of recognition of Kosovo as an independent state.

“This is another major achievement, not only for disputing Kosovo’s independence, but also for the understanding of this issue – that it can be resolved only through dialogue, which is an encouragement to reaching a solution through dialogue – and not, as Kosovo believes, that the matter has already been settled. This shows that the matter has not yet been settled and it is to be seen, at the Interpol voting, that the number of countries believed to recognize Kosovo is false. Since supposedly there are so many countries supporting them, the expected outcome would be their admission to Interpol, but I can guarantee you that it will not happen”, Minister Dacic said.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Grenada Peter David said that his country’s cooperation with Serbia was based on profound mutual respect for sovereignty and non-interference with internal matters.
He said that Grenada had good cooperation with Serbia, in particular in the area of education, students from Grenada being educated in Serbia.

“I am looking forward to deepening the cooperation between our two countries. We have signed an agreement which makes provisions for the establishment of a Joint Commission on Cooperation in the areas of education, health, agriculture and apartment construction”, Minister David said.

The note delivered states that Grenada has decided to review its position on the status of Kosovo.

“After extensive research and deliberation, the Government of Grenada considers that the support for the solution of the future status of Kosovo arrived at through dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina is paramount and the preferred mechanism to achieve a just, lasting and sustainable solution. Indeed, once the two parties reach an agreement, the Government of Grenada will steadfastly support the position reached by the parties. In the interim, the Government of Grenada suspends any previous decision or declaration on the question as to the status of Kosovo.”

Dacic: “OSCE Mediterranean Conference was an opportunity for various bilateral meetings”

Iviaca Dacic“Participation in the OSCE Mediterranean Conference was an opportunity for a bilateral meeting with the new Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Spain. This meeting was of high importance for Serbia since Spain is the EU country which offers the biggest support to the territorial integrity of Serbia. The position of Spain is a major obstruction to setting the recognition of Kosovo as an ultimatum for the continuation of the European integration process of Serbia.
We have both noted that bilateral relations between our two countries were exceptional. I have invited my colleague to visit Serbia, so as to strengthen our cooperation even more.

I also met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovakia Miroslav Lajcak, who will take over the OSCE Chairmanship on 1 January. It is important for Serbia that during this period the Organization be managed in compliance with status neutrality. Bearing in mind that Albania applied for OSCE Chairmanship in 2020, we have requested that Albania respects status neutrality and the principles of the Organization, as a prerequisite for our accepting its candidacy. In such case, the OSCE Troika would be comprised of Slovakia and potentially Albania, but it is also important that the OSCE position I have mentioned be maintained in the years to come.

The topic of the Conference was also the inclusion of all OSCE member states, in order to ensure the best possible cooperation with the Mediterranean countries. Serbia will soon submit its application for membership in the Union for the Mediterranean.

We wish to increase our presence in Spain. A few months ago we established a Consulate headed by an Honorary Consular Officer in Zaragoza, and now we have opened a Consulate in Seville. We would also like to open a Consulate in Barcelona, since Spain is a big country, and a friendly one, and we wish not only to foster good political and economic relations with it, but also to provide assistance for our citizens residing in this region,” the Serbian Foreign Minister said following the meetings in Malaga.
